چکیده

Background and Aim: Escherichia coli causes a bacterial illness that frequently affects cats. Diseases caused by E. are treated using antibiotics. Because of their proximity to humans, cats possess an extremely high risk contracting antibiotic resistance genes when owners touch cat feces containing harbor genes. This study was conducted identify multidrug-resistant extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing from rectal swabs collected at Surabaya City Veterinary Hospital determine sensitivity. Materials Methods: Samples were cultured in Brilliant Green Bile Lactose Broth medium then streaked on eosin methylene blue agar for isolation, whereas Gram-staining IMViC tests confirm the identification results. The Kirby–Bauer diffusion test used sensitivity, double-disk synergy ESBL-producing bacteria. Molecular detection TEM CTX-M performed polymerase chain reaction. Results: Based morphological culture, Gram-staining, biochemical testing, results sample inspection showed 100 swab samples isolated, 71 (71%) positive coli. Furthermore, 23 isolates (32.39%) demonstrated highest ampicillin. Four confirmed be multidurg-resistant strains. examination revealed three harbored CTX-M. Conclusion: In conclusion, pet must educated use antibiotics improve knowledge about risks resistance. Keywords: cat, coli, β-lactamase, multidrug resistance, public health.

Identification of extended-spectrum β-lactamase genes in Escherichia coli isolated from patients with urinary tract infection

Introduction: Recentlly, resistance to antibiotics has increased and antibiotic-resistant strains producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) have emerged among Enterobacteriaceae, mainly in Escherichia coli (E. coli). In this study we aimed to determine phenotypic and genotypic ESBL production in isolated E. coli from women with urinary tract infection (UTI). Materials and Methods: In...

Lytic Activity of Isolated Phage from Milk Against Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Escherichia coli

Background and purpose: Escherichia coli (E.coli) is the most common cause of urinary tract infection. The treatment strategy has been hampered by the emergence of broad-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing E.coli and its resistance to most antibiotics. Bacteriophages are suggested as an alternative treatment option. This study aimed at evaluating the lytic activity of isolated phage from unpaste...

Identification of extended-spectrum β-lactamase and quinolone resistance genes in Escherichia coli isolated from hospital wastewater from central India.

OBJECTIVES To investigate the presence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), related to commonly used β-lactams and quinolones, in Escherichia coli present in hospital wastewater in central India. METHODS Cefotaxime- and ciprofloxacin-resistant E. coli isolates from hospital-associated wastewater samples were collected from two tertiary care hospitals in the Ujjain district of India during 2...

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Profile of Extended Spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL) Producing Escherichia coli from Various Clinical Samples

BACKGROUND Extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) producing Escherichia coli has tremendously increased worldwide and it is one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality associated with hospital-acquired infections. This could be attributed to association of multi drug resistance in ESBL producing isolates. The present study was aimed to determine the antimicrobial sensitivity profile ...

Prevalence of Extended-Spectrum-β-Lactamase- and/or Carbapenemase-Producing Escherichia coli Isolated from Yellow-Legged Gulls from Barcelona, Spain.

Seventy-two (54.5%) out of 132 fecal samples from a group of yellow-legged gulls in Barcelona, Spain, were positive for Escherichia coli producing either extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL) (51.5%), carbapenemase (1.5%), or cephamycinase (1.5%). The isolation of two carbapenemase-producing E. coli strains is a matter of concern.
